Ikebana; The Art of Japanese Floristry
September 8, 2:30 pm - 3:30 pm
Ikebana means “making flowers come alive.” It is the centuries-old Japanese art of arranging flowers.
Saori Tatsuno will give a demonstration of the ikebana approach to floristry. She is a member of the Ikenobo School, the founding school of Ikebana.
Saori will present some ikebana techniques, bringing to life the history and principles of Ikebana and ikebana ‘freestyle’.
Next, Global Waters presents Japanese floral artist CHIHARU. The Global Waters company connects Australia and Japan through education and cultural interaction. They will be partnering with Julia Rose to create a study tour for young Japanese florists in Australia.
In this presentation, CHIHARU will demonstrate a contemporary Japanese approach to floristry using beautiful fresh blooms and traditional kimono ties (called ‘Obi’) to create a modern masterpiece.
Come and join us for this ‘journey to Japan’!
Sunday afternoon (2:30pm-3:30pm) in the Creative Art Space above Goa Restaurant on the Corner of Peak Avenue and Tedder Avenue.
This presentation is by donation. Suggested donation $10.
